My New Year’s Resolution (And Why You Might Want to Make It, Too)

Dec 30, 2025 | 5 comments

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you may have noticed a subtle shift over the past two and a half years. Or not. Honestly, I didn’t notice it myself until I went back and reread old posts, starting from the very beginning. While you’re welcome to do that, too, here’s the 10-second TL;DR version:

And here’s why: In a state of stillness, something bubbled up. Something like the fact that I don’t have a vision of my future right now. And that’s unsettling.

When David was alive, the future felt like a shared horizon. I didn’t need a detailed plan because together was the plan and the vision. Now “together” is gone, and my life feels like one big question mark. For a woman who likes answers, that’s a problem.

Recently, I was given this very wise advice: “The way forward isn’t about forcing clarity. It’s about learning how to keep moving through the fog without demanding that it lift first.” Then I found this quote from Abraham Hicks: “You’re not looking for the path. You’re creating an atmosphere so that the path shows itself to you.”

And something clicked. Instead of waiting for a fully formed vision of my future to fall from the sky, I’ve decided to move forward anyway, creating the conditions for a new future to reveal itself.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve been dreaming about what I want my life to look like. To feel like. It was then I knew I was ready to shift from chasing WOW Moments to designing my WOW Life.

That idea excites me in a way I haven’t felt in a long time. And I’ve decided to use 2026 as a fresh slate, giving each month a different focus. January is all about setting the stage. You have to see it to be it, and I’m making my external world reflect the internal changes I want to make. I’m cleaning out closets. Paying extra attention to my wardrobe. Updating my home so it actually feels like me. Buying myself fresh flowers. And so much more.

I’ve taken January’s focus for a test drive, and it’s incredible what a new red sweater and a vase full of white tulips can do. The fog? It’s starting to lift—just a little.

Designing my WOW Life is my 2026 New Year’s resolution. It feels a lot more fun (and sustainable) than “eliminate sugar” or “never miss a 5 a.m. gym class.” It’s about choosing expansion instead of limitation. I’ve charted out the months ahead, each focusing on a different area of my life, like relationships, self care, joy, and curiosity. And I’ll blog about my progress, the good and the bad.

If you want to make this your resolution too, please do! I think everyone deserves a life that makes them say “WOW!” (In the good way.) It just takes intention.

Congratulations! Can’t wait to read about your next steps.
I’ve sort of re-connected with some play group friends- CW and JF. If I am correct, I THINK you might still be in our town? If you’d like to join for lunch or coffee some time in the near future, let me know. Happy happy 2026!

Awesome idea! I’m doing a similar thing after a number of losses and changes. I want to be ready to walk down whatever path reveals itself.
