As I sat down to write this post and looked at the photos on my phone for inspiration, I realized that this week felt light on WOWs. And, you know what? That’s OK! I started thinking about what I did, and it was more about connection than experience.
I attended a club meeting. In June, I joined a local widow’s club chapter to connect with other women who lost a spouse. While I’ve attended many of the weekly restaurant dinners, I haven’t gone to a monthly meeting since then. I decided to go, and I met three women who had recently lost their husbands. It felt good to sit and talk to one of them. It also felt good to realize how far I’d come in my journey.
I got a taste of the past. At the meeting, someone brought homemade date bars. My mom used to make them during the holidays, and they were always one of my favorites. I hadn’t had one in years, and taking a bite connected me to the Christmas tradition of baking with my mom.
I expanded my friend circle. Someone from a local Meetup hiking group asked if I’d like to hike on Saturday. I said yes. It was fun to walk and talk for nearly six miles and discover we had a lot in common.
I comforted someone. A friend is currently going through an uncertain situation and asked if we could meet for coffee. I shared my experience with something similar and answered questions. Later, I got a text saying that the meeting was very helpful.
What were your WOWs this week?
